Biogas and biomethane purification

Biogas and biomethane is a natural energy source that allows to obtain new sources of profitability from disposable organic matter.

BION has a complete range of equipment designed and manufactured to purify biogas and biomethane before feeding it into the consumption network.

What is biogas?

Industrially generated biogas is a source of energy produced from different types of organic matter through anaerobic fermentation. The resulting gas consists of methane (CH4), carbon dioxide (CO2), and traces of other gases including hydrogen sulfide (H2S).

Biogas is used as a renewable fuel alternative to the current dependence on fossil fuels such as natural gas, oil and coal.

Why is it important to filter the gases in a biogas plant?

Because the gases resulting from anaerobic fermentation contain trace amounts of pollutant gases, it is necessary to filter these elements and purify the resulting gas.
The removal of hydrogen sulfide gas is crucial for reasons of health, safety, environment and corrosion of equipment such as gas engines, boilers and pipelines. Desulfurization is also necessary when upgrading biogas to inject quality natural gas into the grid.
Siloxane gases are mainly found in biogas sources originating from a landfill. Removal of siloxanes is essential for the proper functioning and longevity of the equipment present.

What solutions are available for the control of sulfur and siloxanes?

The wide casuistry existing in the different biogas installations (landfills, digesters, etc.) has led us to design a series of specific materials that adapt to each of the different scenarios. Thus, based on the specifications of each installation, our engineering team calculates the system and proposes the most efficient average. The solution is based on the residence time of the equipment and the average, the concentration of pollutants such as hydrogen sulfide (H2S), volatile organic compounds (VOCs) or siloxanes, among others.

We are part of the AEBIG association

AEBIG is an association that aims to treat and reduce greenhouse gases. They also promote agro-industrial biogas, both as a renewable energy source. At BION, as a manufacturer of biogas pretreatment media, we are committed to the sector.
